About
every marketer and his dog has a lead capture tool for the "TikTok growth strategy" (spreadsheet template) they built in 30 minutes.
i don't hate them for it, but it made me wonder.
as programmers, why do we give away 100s of hours of work ("open source") without asking for anything in return?
of course, the solution is not to tax people who need your code. it is to grant a reward -- deeper collaboration -- to those with skin in the game.
prefer to keep giving away projects, 100% free? we got you. at Git Paywall, money is optional. use our email magnet (example) to automatically send repository invites and grow your newsletter at the same time.
TL;DR
direct contact with people who rely on you the most fosters better maintainer <> user relationships, fewer new-release breaking changes, and a little bit of appreciation for all your hard work.
